Russ has been a professional actor/director for the past 20+ years. He has performed in and directed everything from Independent Film to theater and Williams, Miller, Shakespeare and a range of things in between.
In film In 2012 “The Night Never Sleeps” was the fourth independent feature film Russ has produced. Co-starring in it as well with Armand Assante, Eric Roberts and Robert Clohessy, the film has recently received winning accolades from four International Film Festivals including two best supporting actor awards for Russ.
In 2009 “Night for Day” was the third feature produced by Russ and his second feature directorial effort. It was accepted into several International Film Festivals and won Best LI Feature at the Long Island International Film Expo.
In 2004 he directed and produced “Lower than the Angels” based on an award winning stage play and in 2005, Russ also shot, co-produced and edited the feature documentary “Come Hell or High Water” filmed in New Orleans in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina that debuted at the Queens International Film Festival where it won the award for Best Feature Documentary.
In the Theater he has performed such classic characters as Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire, Brick in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Alfieri in A View From The Bridge, Marc Antony in Julius Caesar among many others.
As a Director in the theater, his work has been seen in many theaters throughout the NYC—Tri-State area. In addition to critically acclaimed productions of Julius Caesar (Winner 2001 OOBR Critics Choice Award), Othello, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Agnes of God, for Genesis Rep, Russ has directed productions at other area theaters including Crimes Of The Heart, Steel Magnolias, Love Letters, Anatomy of a Murder, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Odd Couple, The Good Doctor, Prelude to a Kiss and Sideman.
